Did you know that Saturday, April 30th, was Local Bike Shop Day ?! To celebrate this auspicious day our Chair, Derek Latham, visited local bike shops with his wife Pauline. Pauline is MP for Mid-Derbyshire, and a staunch advocate of the Derwent Valley Cycleway. She can now promote the shops on her website, encouraging more people to cycle. Pictured are two of the shops in Pauline’s constituency, near the Cycleway.

At repair shop Big on Bikes, in Little Eaton, they learnt from owner David Howard that there has been a big increase in the use of electric bikes. He also explained how he trains beginners to ride safely and with confidence.
Velo Bavarian, which specialises in upmarket bikes, is in Duffield, and is owned by Luke Frixou. Here assistant Alex Maynard showed off their most expensive bike, a Pinarello Dogma, selling at £12000! Upstairs Dan Ur of Bike Fit customises bikes, both for cycling athletes and for those with disabilities.
