For much of this section the Way follows the Derwent closely. As well as ancient woodland and fine old bridges, there are distant views of the gritstone edges and close-ups of buildings as varied as Calver Mill and Bubnell Hall. Calver Mill is an impressive building and was once used as a screen set for the television series Colditz. When you reach Bridge End, the oldest part of Baslow, galleries and refreshments offer a welcome taste of civilisation.

To the start at Hathersage, buses from Sheffield and Bakewell; trains from Sheffield and Manchester. Trains from Grindleford station to Sheffield and Manchester. Buses from Calver Bridge and the finish at Baslow to Sheffield, Chesterfield, Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock.
Accessibility
The tarmac track from Leadmill Bridge to Harper Lees is suitable for wheelchairs, but not the rest of this section.
Taking a child buggy is possible, but would be difficult on the uneven ground through Coppice Wood & Horse Hay Coppice.
