New Cycle route north of Matlock

Sun 27 March 2016 By Ian Dent 2 Comments

Derbyshire County Council are making good progress in constructing the multi-user path north of Matlock that will connect the Derwent Valley Cycleway with the Monsal Trail.

Those who enjoyed the “slow TV” season recently on TV (reindeer herding, canal boat sailing) should visit Les Sims’ video of the route which can be found here and which shows the route from Churchtown to Rowsley.

When will the complete link from Matlock to Bakewell be finished? Where can I see a map on the finalised route? Thanks

Hard to say when the route will be finished as it is dependent on funding and support from various bodies. We’d expect it to be completed in stages but would hope the full route would be in place within 5 years. See https://derwentvalleycycleway.org.uk/faq/ for more details. The complete route detail is still being finalised and depends on ownerships, engineering issues, etc. You can see a proposed route at https://derwentvalleycycleway.org.uk/possible-route/ (zoom in on the map to see more detail).
