Section 6 – Whatstandwell to Belper

Section 6 – 5.6 miles / 9.1 km

Overview: This section continues along the disused Cromford canal, which is now a nature reserve. It then passes through pleasant rural scenery before reaching Belper with its rich industrial legacy.

Cross the footbridge & turn right along the canal towpath for almost 2 miles.

Soon after the canal bends away from the road & railway, turn right on a road down to the main A6 at Ambergate. Cross over & turn left past the Hurt Arms, then right into Holly Lane.

At the end of the bridge, bear right on a track then immediately left on a path through The Birches which leads to a minor road junction.

Cross on to Whitewells Lane for ½ mile. After passing a wood, turn left on an indistinct path down the field boundary. The path continues across the next field to skirt around woodland on the right.

Turn right along a track leading into Wyver Lane which takes you into Belper.

Turn left on the road over Belper Bridge & up to The Triangle junction with the A6. Cross both roads & turn right.

Turn left up Long Row & right at the top along Green Lane.

Turn left up King Street to the Market Place.

Cross to the car park to start section 7.

Go down King Street for buses & trains.
