Follow country lanes and fields past the historic villages of Makeney and Duffield
Go through the Belper marketplace car park & follow the path down to the brook. Fork right, then right again at the top of the steps.
Turn left at the playing field & continue in the same direction to exit the park on Holbrook Road.
Turn right down the road, then left on Wildersley Road.
Just before farm buildings, fork right on a path. Follow it for almost a mile, crossing a lane, to reach a track.
Turn right downhill past the Holly Bush Inn to the road at Makeney.
Turn left on the road for a mile to Duffield Bridge.
Turn left past the Bridge Inn & right on a path which leads back to the road at Peckwash Mill.
Turn right for 300 yards, then sharp left up a path. Take the second path on the right which crosses a narrow bridge over the old Rigga Quarry.
At Vicarage lane turn right for 250 yards, then bear left past the churchyard. Bear right down steps on a path to the road through Little Eaton village.
Walk on to the main Alfreton Road & the Queens Head
Turn right for section 8.
Trains & buses between Matlock and Derby pass through Belper.
Buses from Little Eaton run through the village to Derby & Belper (change for Matlock & Buxton), and along Alfreton Road to Alfreton & Mansfield.
Only the road sections are wheelchair suitable.
The route as far as Makeney is possible with a buggy but would be hard work. The paths between Duffield Bridge & Little Eaton are not passable.
